LitterMaid
Type
Self-Cleaning Litter Box
Design
LitterMaid is a white-and-blue, cuboid-shaped litter box. It features a large basin with an automated rake, a covered waste receptacle compartment, and a ramp for minimized tracking and easier entry. Its sides are tall enough to suit the needs of cats that spray high when they go.
Dimensions
LitterMaid measures:
  • 28 inches in length;
  • 17.7 inches in width;
  • 9.8 inches in height;
  • 590 cubic inches in usable cat space (17.5 inches x 13.5 inches x 2.5 inches).
Installation Process
LitterMaid comes fully assembled and you only need to insert the waste receptacle into the designated compartment and attach the paw cleaning ramp, which takes no more than 2 minutes.
Scooping Proces
LitterMaid is an automatic litter box and does not require manual scooping.
Noise Level
LitterMaid is equipped with a powerful motor that produces noise during the cleaning cycle. Noise levels are not unusually high, but if your cat is particularly sensitive to noise, it is best to start the cleaning cycles manually when your cat is not in the room.
Durability
LitterMaid is made of plastic that does not break easily but can get damaged with prolonged use. The device can last anywhere between 1 and 5+ years, depending on use.
Odor Control
LitterMaid is known for great odor control. It removes waste within 10-12 minutes and stores it in receptacles with sealable lids and carbon filters that prevent the odors from escaping the box.
Recommended For
LitterMaid is perfect for healthy, agile, extroverted cats that are not overly sensitive to noise. It is not suitable for kittens under the age of 6 months due to the use of clumping litter. Older cats and handicapped kitties may have a hard time exiting the litter box. Cats that are diabetics produce large urine clumps that the rake cannot remove efficiently.
Suitable For Multiple Cats
Litter Compatibility
LitterMaid can work with any high-quality hard-clumping litter. It does not work with non-clumping, crystal, and pearl-like litters. If you want to play it safe, you can opt for LitterMaid's own litter.
Recommended Liners
LitterMaid uses disposable waste receptacles and does not require the use of liners. However, if you want to save money on waste receptacles, you can line them with regular trash bags.
Cleaning & Maintenance
With LitterMaid, you only need to dispose of waste once a week by removing the waste receptacle or the liner. The top housing, the paw cleaning ramp, and the motion sensors should be cleaned weekly. The litter tray should be cleaned monthly, when you are replacing the litter.
Training Considerations
Getting used to LitterMaid should take virtually no time if your cat has already used a self-cleaning litter box. If this is not the case, it is best to keep LitterMaid next to the old litter box, start the cycles manually in your cat's absence for the first 2-3 days, and stop cleaning the old litter box. You can use catnip and your cat's favorite toys and treats to make LitterMaid more appealing. When your cat starts using LitterMaid exclusively, you can start the cleaning cycles in his or her presence, providing support to facilitate the adjustment.
Safety Considerations
LitterMaid features no electronic parts that your cat can come in contact with, apart from the AC adapter and the cord, which are not necessary if you are using batteries. It is made of non-toxic, pet-safe materials. It has no sharp or protruding elements that could harm your cat. The automatic rake is equipped with a safety bar that stops the cleaning cycle if your cat enters the litter box.

The motor is very potent and can last for years if used properly. The housing does not feature any parts that could be broken or damaged by your pets.
Odor Control
PetSafe ScoopFree comes with the company’s proprietary litter crystals that absorb liquid and dehydrate solid waste, providing perfect odor control. Furthermore, the automatic cleaning cycle will start 20 minutes after your cat leaves the box and seal any solid waste in the waste trap.
Recommended For
PetSafe ScoopFree is designed for one cat, but it can serve more if necessary. The company recommends using it for cats up to 15lbs in weight. Kittens can use the box, but you will have to manually scoop the waste until they are at least 6 months old.
Suitable For Multiple Cats
Litter Compatibility
PetSafe ScoopFree works best with the company’s proprietary litter crystals.
Recommended Liners
PetSafe ScoopFree works best with the company’s proprietary disposable litter trays that come with their own liners.
Cleaning & Maintenance
PetSafe ScoopFree does not require regular cleaning since all the parts that could get soiled get disposed of with the replaceable litter tray. You can clean it thoroughly every couple of months to remove dust build-up, especially around the motion sensors. Clean the box with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid using bleach and similar chemicals. Do not immerse the box in water to avoid damaging the electrical components.
Training Considerations
You can help your cat get used to his or her new toilet by placing PetSafe ScoopFree next to your old litter box. Mix a handful of the old litter with PetSafe crystals in both boxes. Stop cleaning the old box to make it unappealing to your cat.

    Works ok but needs a better rake. Sleep mode would be nice.

    I’ve had mine for 3 years and I’ve grown attached to it, but it took me a while to get the litter level right and about a month ago, it started getting stuck so I have to get a new one. So far, I haven’t found anything better in the same price range, so I’ll probably get Litter Maid again, at least I know how to use it and my cats like it.

    Just wanted to say thanks for the tip, just tried the trick with the tape and no more spills! Can’t believe I haven’t thought of it myself. Anyway, I love Litter Maid and now its LITTERally perfect, haha :D

    This box really deals with nasty smells like nothing we had before. I can still see some yellow marks on the crystals even after the cleaning but as long as it doesn’t stink, I’m good.

    The litter box itself is great but these accessories, refills and replacements are bleeding me dry.
  • Submitted By Jake Bronson on 04/22/2018
    The box seems sturdy as hell and the motor is going strong even after 5 months. It was much bigger than I expected though so I had to make some extra space for it. My cat loves it and she started using it regularly after just two days of playing hard to get.
